Plastic Machining Vs Plastic Molding of Components
Recently, our company exhibited at a design show in New England. At the show, I could not help but notice how many engineers approached our booth and picked up our parts. They were attracted by the various shapes, the colors, and the way the overhead lights shown off the many sharp angles that only precision machining can produce. They each would turn the part over and over, show their companions, discuss among themselves, then every time, the visitor would look up and ask this same question: "Are these parts injection molded?" "No, they are not" I would reply and sigh inwardly knowing that I was confronting yet another design engineer who believes that molded parts are more cost effective and a...
Wyoming Politicians: Regulators Eager to Fast Track ISL Uranium Mining Operations
"body"> While other states' politicians are wondering how to keep their voters employed, Wyoming's mining companies are scrambling to find workers for their projects. According to Matt Grant, Assistant Director of the Wyoming Mining Association, "The mining industry has at least 700 job openings right now." He added, "Those are direct jobs. If you include the service industry jobs, for which there is a ratio of three service industry jobs for every direct job, then the real number is closer to 2,800." Grant explained that an unskilled worker could start tomorrow with an annual salary of $44,000. "A skilled electrician can make up to $100, 000 per year," Grant confided. Living in Wyoming isn't...
The Nuclear Deal - Why America is Proactive to 'Help' India
The Bush administration is visibly working overtime to finalize the nuclear deal with India. There are many indications that president George Bush is personally pursuing the deal to get it pass in the September session of the US Congress. However, there are different voices within the US administration about how much America will benefit from it. There is also the non-proliferation lobby constantly campaigning against the deal. The Bush administration is arguing that the deal will be a foundation of closed strategic relationship with a democratic and 'economically vibrant' friendly country that significantly shares its border with China. Non-proliferation groups are saying that the deal would ruin...

ar power as a sustainable, environmentally-sound source of electricity is enjoying a comeback in terms of public opinion, but it still faces public and environmental challenges. On the one hand, the near zero-carbon emissions characteristic of nuclear power plants is attractive to industry and environmentalists alike. On the other hand, concerns remain about potentially-harmful environmental effects of the uranium-based fuels that make it possible. Nearly all of the concern with nuclear power has focused upon the back end of the fuel cycle, namely the storage and disposal of spent fuel as high-level waste. While spent fuel has been the major focus issue surrounding nuclear power, there is actually...
The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Depleted Uranium De-Conversion Process - An Economically-Viable Solution
Nuclear power is poised to experience a resurgence, both in terms its widespread use and in positive public perception. Building concerns about the effects of fossil fuels on the environment, in addition to other factors, are making the nuclear power option seem increasingly viable. Before uranium can be used in nuclear power plants, it must first be enriched. During that process, however, only 10% of the natural uranium entering the enrichment process is useable. The remaining 90% is a by-product of the enrichment process and is referred to as "depleted" uranium or "tails." These depleted tails are in a chemically reactive form (UF6) and cannot be disposed - without chemical treatment. They must...
Uranerz Energy: Developing Uranium Projects in Wyoming
Relatively speaking, it's not saying much, but Wyoming's Powder River Basin is presently the largest uranium producing area in the United States. Cameco's (NYSE: CCJ) Smith Ranch produces over one million pounds of uranium oxide, more than one-third of U.S. uranium production. Because the spot uranium price has now surpassed $50/pound, more uranium development companies expect to profitably produce uranium in Wyoming. Uranerz Energy (Amex: URZ) has initiated environmental licensing and mine planning on two properties, which could make the company one of the leading junior uranium producers in this state. It would also bring more attention to uranium companies bringing their U.S. projects online...
Uranium Bull Market: Only Tip of the Iceberg
"> In mid September, Mitchell Dong, chief investment officer of Solios Asset Management told a news wire service, "I think we are seeing the tip of the iceberg of financial investors entering the physical uranium market." At the Platts Nuclear Fuel Strategies conference in Washington, this past week, Mitchell Dong was a pit bull. Not only did he take extensive notes during the speeches, but he was first-in-line to question the majority of the speakers after their presentations. Clearly, whatever initial purchases his fund or funds had made, in entering the physical uranium and equities markets, he probably wasn't finished loading up. Nearby, a trio of Greenwich, Connecticut hedge fund managers...
The Energy Sector Will Reignite Investor Profits in 2009
The Energy Sector Will Reignite Investor Profits In 2009 The political lack of will and action will focus investor attention on the profits from higher oil prices in 2009 and the refocus on a slow revival in nuclear power and a continuing use of coal. A History of Political Inaction Equals Profits for Investors The Current Plan The political talk of oil independence and more oil drilling in America is only talk. In fact low prices for oil and uranium are discouraging supply expansion. The current " Picken's Plan " for America to develop more wind power and a conversion from foreign oil to natural gas is laudable. However, investors should focus on the likelihood of little being done over the course...
China
-> As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Sunday night's revelations that China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) may strengthen its ties to UraMin could represent a broader picture than an ordinary acquisition of a near-term uranium producer. There is an ongoing global war for energy security, which appears to be politically inspired. China and Russia are the main opponents, especially in Africa, but have rivaled each other, over the past several years, in Central Asia. The goal for both nations is not only energy security but political influence and alliance over their targeted territories. On May 12th, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan signed a declaration to upgrade and expand transport pipelines...
Uranium recovery and uranium recycling have both become crucial to the nuclear renaissance. To support the growing demand for uranium, governments have begun releasing supplies of highly enriched uranium. This uranium is enriched in the Uranium-235 (U-235) fissile isotope. The level of enrichment can be 50 to 95%, and is used for navy nuclear reactor fuel and nuclear weapons. This material is called high-enriched uranium (HEU). There is currently an excess of such material and a downblending pathway now exists which can provide a significant amount of fuel for commercial nuclear reactors. Commercial nuclear reactors use natural uranium and a variety of enrichments from natural to 5% U-235, known as...
The Key to New Mexico Uranium: A State of the Art Mill
"The key to Grants, New Mexico is a state-of-the-art mill," said Laramide's Marc Henderson. All of the politicians agreed. "It will be a real boon to New Mexico," said New Mexico legislator John A. Heaton. "Mining is one of our basic industries in New Mexico." And after the product is mined, it must be milled. In an email message, Strathmore Mineral's David Miller told us, "We have now completed independent scoping studies for the Roca Honda Project." A registered professional engineer completed an independent evaluation on the mill's capital and operating costs. While the name of the engineer was not disclosed, Miller said, "This gentleman has 40-plus years of experience and has designed many mills...

Part Two: To Invest in Sweden's Uranium Exploration or Not
At this time, uranium mining is banned in Sweden. Will that soon change? In November 2005, Platts carried a news item that the world's second largest uranium producer Cogema, a subsidiary of Areva, was spending about 1.7 million euros on prospecting in Sweden. The industry giant announced plans to narrow down mining sites, after its initial prospecting. Krister Soederholm, chief inspector of mining at the Ministry of Trade & Industry, told Platts that Sweden would respond positively if Cogema's activity "would be of significant benefit to the country." Conscientious Sweden is still reeling from a recent media expose showing that the country now imports a large portion of its uranium from...
Iran and US Deadlocked on Principle and Nearing Political Impasse As the World Fears the Future
Many Geo-Political analysts believe that "Ahmedinejad Continues to Disrupt the World's Anti Nuclear Proliferation Strategies," but is this charge reality based. Well, let's take a look at this charge and some of the potential future conflicts taking place in the real world and on the Global Media Stage. Right now, Iran's leader states that; "The US must be punished for their threats over nuclear proliferation." Okay, let's debate this; Many believe that Ahmedinejad is bent on working to destroy his perceived nemisis - the Jews in Israel. Indeed, he has promised to "blow Israel off the map" in quite a few speeches now, and continues to enrich uranium to make nuclear weapons. Now one has to ask; is...
Speculators Could Drive Uranium to $55/Pound-or Higher
SUMMARY: TradeTech LLC Chief Executive Gene Clark talked with StockInterview about the uranium bull market, where his price models show uranium prices heading and when to expect the peak of the current upward cycle of the bull market. When will "hard" times again hit the uranium market, and how long will the trough last? And what does the future hold for the uranium price? An industry insider gives us his insights. StockInterview: When the uranium bull market began, did you foresee $40/pound uranium, now that the spot price has risen above this level? Gene Clark: I don't think any of us saw $40 per pound coming. We had price projections at the time that indicated probably $25 per pound, which...
Is it Worth it to Invest in Sweden's Uranium Exploration?
There is a compelling political development in Sweden you should know about. The outcome could very well impact the world's anti-nuclear movement and open the doors to a wave of more aggressive nuclear energy build up. Sweden has long been a bellwether for social progress and change. Shortly after Three Mile Island, the Swedes held a referendum on expanding nuclear energy in their country. Sweden voted it down. But, political climates change. What happens in Sweden could help change attitudes toward nuclear energy in Australia, Germany and elsewhere. A country's election can have a widespread ripple effect on an industry. Sweden's four-party opposition bloc, known as the Alliance, is challenging...
The Oil and Gas Industry and teh future
It's not merely organic gas that can be interested in a lot more unconventional means of extraction. Un-conventional oil is actually definitely back up for deabte, following decades in the wilderness and getting cited as way too high priced or even ineffective in order to utilize like a process of manufacturing. Non-conventional oil can be created or perhaps extracted utilizing methods other than the conventional oil well method and is actually a bone of contention with a number of environmentalists as it is actually observed like a particularly 'dirty' method of producing oil, including this kind of techniques as tar sands, heavy oil, oil shale and the conversion of coal or even natural gas to...
What is Nuclear Fuel and How Nuclear Fuel Works - A Future Fuel
The word Nuclear is enough to scare any one and on top of it subject as nuclear energy is enough to confuse people. The global energy is much talked subject, thanks to scientist, environmentalist and government agencies people now know the impact of it. The quest for alternate energy is at war foot, tons of money is being poured into research by government and private industries. Countries around world are debating about building more nuclear reactors and how to safeguard them. The people are polarized on some issues related to Nuclear energy, such as some favor partial implementation, some worry about nuclear waste and some worry about this technology slipping into the hand of bad guys. Currently...
Going Green With Solar, Wind, Or Biofuels is Not Easy
History is slowly being made. A few years ago, and for the first time, the U.S. Senate included a "renewable energy" requirement for utilities in its energy bill. Unexciting as this may appear at first glance, the bill, after passing the House, required most utility companies that now generate power by burning fossil fuels to produce 10% of their power from "renewable," or "green" sources such as solar energy, wind, geothermal wells, methane gas from landfills, and biomass from farms by the year 2020. Hydro-electric and nuclear energy sources were not included. To date, only 14 states have had enough foresight to adopt voluntary renewable energy requirements for utilities, ranging from 1% in Arizona...
High Demand of Utility Jobs
The utility industry has lead to the creation of new generation nuclear jobs and renewable energy jobs that are filled with innovation technologies and challenges to satisfy the growing energy demands. With shortage of skill, many utility jobs are vacant as the utility industry is waiting for potential candidates having enough knowledge to create revolution in the utility sector. The utility jobs are in continuous process of creating interesting posts looking at the emerging competitors who are extremely savvy and are coming out with innovative techniques to enhance the industries' adaptability and ability. In such a scenario as the expectation level increases for the employees, the job seekers...
Wind Turbines - Build Yourself a Free Power Supply
Wind turbines at present appear to be one of the best alternative energy suppliers. They are completely independent from the cost of fossil fuels. They can therefore be an excellent environmentally friendly solution to the ever present problem of the cost of oil and gas. There are other possible power sources which can also help. Solar energy is very clean and totally free. The only drawback here is the high cost of solar panels and their limited power output. They can be a good secondary power source when used along with wind turbines. Nuclear power is another obvious answer and this form of power is being developed in various places around the world. The initial cost of nuclear power plants is very...
Will China
ext">According to China’s Ministry of Land Resources, China plans to build up sufficient reserves of uranium and other minerals, in a new five-year government plan. The ministry said it would be stockpiling strategic reserves of uranium, copper, aluminum and other key minerals because of rising demand for those commodities. The Chinese also wish to avoid supply disruptions by hoarding uranium and other minerals, over the next few years. Until now, you’ve probably taken for granted a steady, reliable source of electricity. A large part of your dependable energy came about because of the nuclear energy generated by the 103 nuclear reactors in 30 states. Without a steady supply of...
Alternative Solar Power - Benefits
With the awareness of global warming and the depletion of petroleum, more attention is being given to alternative solar power. For several decades now, we have been aware of solar energy. It is only recently been put to use on a global scale. The benefits of using alternative solar power are substantial enough to take a closer look. The Benefits Alternative solar power is renewable. The sun is our endless resource for solar power electricity. When the sun shines, we are able to produce energy for powering our lives. Storing this form of power. As of yet, we are unable to store enough to power more than a few outside lights during the nighttime hours. With researchers working tirelessly on ways of...

The Future of Photovoltaic Industry
Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into electricity. The photovoltaic effect is the basic physical process through which this happens. Sunlight is composed of photons, or particles of solar energy. These photons contain various amounts of energy corresponding to the different wavelengths of the solar spectrum. When photons strike a PV cell, they may be reflected or absorbed, or they may pass right through. Only the absorbed photons generate electricity. When this happens, the energy of the photon is transferred to an electron in an atom of the cell (which is actually a semiconductor). With its newfound energy, the electron is able to escape from its normal position associated with that atom...
Oil, Energy, and Congress
Now that Congress has recessed for the end of the summer, what are we to make of the energy situation? At this point, I'm getting tired of hearing that $4.00 gasoline is good for me. How can it be good when Americans are spending less of their money on other goods and investing in their gas tanks? Is it good that transportation costs have sent my food bill sky rocketing? Is it good that many Americans have shortened their vacations and cut back on their entertainment spending? Is it good that the working poor are struggling between putting groceries in their home and fueling their cars to get to work? Apparently our Congressional leaders and one presidential candidate say the answer is yes. While...

Building Your Emotional "Fallout Shelter"
When was the last time someone dropped 'the bomb' on you? You know what I mean: the last time you heard someone say, "I love you but I'm not in love with you;" or "I'm sorry but we're going to have to let you go;" or the ever-popular "The doctor wants to see you in his office right away"? Ouch! For many reasons, midlife winds up being 'ground zero' for many of life's most upsetting moments. Back in the '50's, we were universally taught to "duck and cover" as a strategy that was supposed to help us survive a nuclear bomb explosion. I'm not sure that we have any generally-accepted strategies for recovering from these kinds of midlife blasts, though. Emotionally, we're stuck with a kind of 'every...
FADE IN: A cynical writer named Marty, his psychic wife Leela, and Marty's best friend, Hacker, are having a serious meeting on the couple's front deck at their home in Sedona. Hacker, true to his name, is a computer genius and a brilliant techie. A serious crisis is brewing which could affect the global economy. "Lemme get this straight," says Hacker to Leela. "Marty ran it down to me, but I figured him or you must have a glitch in your software." Leela smiles thinly. "So these guys out in Page Springs are going to bring down China by using an electromagnetic pulse," continues Hacker, "which by the way is usually caused by a nuclear bomb explosion. Except there won't be a nuclear explosion, right...
Talk is Cheap, But Ahmedinejad and Obama Want to Waste More Time
Perhaps, it stands to reason that one of the best talkers of our time, one that originally cut his political teeth in the "sleazy underworld of Chicago Politics" known for its ruthless history and Machiavellian montage is now calling for more talks, this time with Iran's Ahmedinejad who honestly believes that nuclear weapon power is a gift from God? Well then, looks like the talks have reached an impasse and they haven't even started yet. Further, Ahmedinejad tells the world they will have peace talks, but refuse to discuss any issue having to do with "any nuclear technologies" and thus, one has to wonder why anyone would bother? Is President Obama trying to play "patty-cake" with Ahmedinejad...
Obama, Energy Policy, and Dismal Energy Science
Economics is often called the dismal science because of an article written by Thomas Carlyle more than 150 years ago. In it he proposed mockingly to reintroduce slavery to control labor markets. During modern times, this moniker proves to be a prophetic choice. Modern economics have, after all, brought us not only free markets and unimaginable monetary rewards for the few chosen ones, but have also produced the great depression of 1931, the world financial crisis of 2008, and 12 recessions in the intervening 75 years. Just imagine a similar performance record for airplanes, skyscrapers, nuclear power plants, and bridges! The financial damages inflicted by systemic deficiencies in our economic...

For those of you who want to know how to get an internet business started, or get an existing one actually making money, and are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, then this article is for you. Surprisingly, it does not require a massive amount of unique skill-sets, uncanny insights, or extensive knowledge. Most successful internet entrepreneurs were born out of a variety of different backgrounds and careers- and when they began were essentially "beginners". I started out as a nuclear engineer in the Navy, turned insurance sales manager in the 90s, and then a Realtor for 14 years until I discovered the incredible power of the web. I'll admit, I felt somewhat lost when I began my internet...
Buffalo Bills NFL Kuwait Connection
The Buffalo Bills last Pre-Season Game turned out to have a special twist to it. Gibran Hamdan went 18 for 26 with 158 yards in a Bills 14-6 loss. He also had two carries for 26 yards. I thought he looked like an NFL ready quarterback with a quick release and coolness under fire. Sure, it was only pre-season and when the real heat turns on he may need a little more seasoning. The real football story on Hamdan may come in the future and today's story may be a highlight of the American Dream. In this day of war and prejudice, it's hard to believe the NFL has a story like Gibran Hamdan. His father is a Palestinian and returned close to his home in 1984 as he took a job in Kuwait. His mother is from...
Earl Fee Shows How to Go From Good to Great
WARNING: This article will cause some people to get defensive, to get their hackles up, to make excuses for their less-than-great physical condition while others will find hope in it. Proceed with caution. Canadian Earl Fee went from being a good runner in his youth to being a great one in his later years. By applying what we can learn from his hugely successful transformation maybe we can go from average to awesome shape or maybe become a masters athlete or a more successful one. Before looking at how he did it, we should probably take a peek at a little of why he's considered a great runner today. Earl was a good, maybe even a very good middle-distance runner in high school and college -- for...

Third Branch Of Life Confirmed
hers Present Archaea Genome Sequence In a major scientific breakthrough, a team of DOE-funded researchers reported in the August 23 issue of Science (273, 1058-73) that they had sequenced the first complete genome of a microorganism that confirms the existence of the third major branch of life on earth. For the first time, researchers can trek boldly across uncharted terrain to make large-scale comparisons among the three domains of life at the genomic level. Researchers from The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR); University of Illinois, Urbana (UIU); and Johns Hopkins University presented the sequence for Methanococcus jannaschii, a member of the Archaea domain of life. The other two major life...
Real Economy is Physical
Economics is an engineering challenge The Wall Street vs Main Street dichotomy has been so overused in the news that it is sickening. It is time to replace this loaded married couple terminology with another. The first reason for this is that WS vs MS split has now become a political slogan and a heuristic and thus does not promote thoughtfulness. The second more important reason is that it obscures the reality of what the real economy is. "Wall Street" has come to symbolize just meaningless paper shuffling gambling that is the financial sector. "Main Street" apparently includes everything else such as telemarketing, McDonalds service, prostitution, web design, and of course industrial production...
Where is Our Power Coming From?
There is a very interesting web page out there entitled World Clock. The number of statistics shown on it are quite mind boggling and include such things as world population figures, the number of spam emails - if you can believe that - how many ducks, chicken and geese are slaughtered, the number of crimes committed in the U.S., information on the amount of CO 2 emissions and loads of other items of interest. What I found to be very interesting was where our power is presently coming from. While the numbers quoted are somewhat heartening, it is painfully obvious that we have a long way to go if we are to have any effect on the carbon dioxide emissions which feature so prominently in our current...
An Overview Of Nuclear Energy
effort to get away from our oil and coal dependency, nuclear energy is getting attention again. Here is an overview of nuclear energy. An Overview of Nuclear Energy Harnessing a chemical reaction at the nuclear level of certain materials produces nuclear energy. The process is known as nuclear fission. Nuclear fission occurs when certain materials, such as uranium, are manipulated in a manner that causes them to decay quickly. A byproduct of this decal is immense amounts of heat. The heat is then typically used to turn turbines much as occurs in hydropower dams. The spinning turbines produce electricity, which is then used for commercial applications and propelling naval vessels such as submarines...
Joyful Assignment For the Next President - Formulation of a Unified National Energy Policy
By his own admission, a certain former President was not keen on "the vision thing" as a general proposition. He never did get around to proposing a Unified National Energy Policy. The successor co-Presidency brought forth many initiatives, but a Unified National Energy Policy was not one of them. Iteration II of the "no vision thing" has done no better in this regard. Apparently the next Presidency is to be neither a Restoration nor a Continuation, which is probably a net positive. The prospect of a breath of fresh air carries with it a certain appeal. Whoever is elected President next autumn has a great opportunity to bring forth a unified national energy plan. It is indeed very late in the day...
The 10 Worst Mistakes Leading to Global Warming
The build up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and resulting global warming is the result of centuries old habits and ill thought out policies that may do more harm than good. Here are listed the ten worst mistakes which have either led us to the present situation, or appear incapable of solving it. 1) Economic growth The New Economics Foundation recently said "We urgently need to change our economy to live within its environmental budget since there is no global, environmental central bank to bail us out if we become ecologically bankrupt" Economic growth has become a cultural obsession. To achieve this, consumer products are designed with either a physical or psychological obsolescence to...
Lights Out in the Balkans - Interview with Aleksandar Dimishkovski of BID Consulting, Macedonia
> Balkan electricity shortages are looming. Conducted: September 2007 Until recently and for four years, Aleksandar Dimishkovski worked as a business and finance correspondent in Macedonia's best-selling daily newspaper, "Dnevnik". In the past year, he also served as a personal advisor to the general manager of a foreign-owned company that has established its network in Macedonia.
