Yucca Mountain

Our nation's leaders are on the verge of making a critical environmental decision that will have immeasurable impacts on every Nevadan.

SECRETARY RECOMMENDS YUCCA MOUNTAIN

Contact Your Elected Officials

Contact our leaders and tell them to stop wasting time on litigation and political campaigning and start focusing on protecting public health and safety by developing state of the art emergency management capabilities.

There are many ways in which Nevada can actually benefit from a repository at Yucca Mountain. Advise our elected officials to pursue these and other forms of compensation in exchange for a nuclear waste storage facility in our State:

Economic Security

  • A "per ton fee" paid directly to the state treasury
  • Release of Nevada’s federal lands to the state
  • The promotion of advanced technology projects in Nevada
  • Production facilities for constructing transportation and storage canisters required for the repository

Educational Advancement

  • A world-class environmental and energy research center at the University of Nevada
  • Grants dedicated to the enhancement of science education in public high schools

Improved Infrastructure

  • Street and highway construction
  • A railroad system to connect the various regions of Nevada
  • Public transportation systems

Water Resources

  • Additional water from the Colorado river and other sources
  • Water delivery systems

Safety

  • A surcharge on high-level waste shipments to fund public safety programs
  • Extensive emergency management and first responder training programs
